The subject and techniques of these works create a thematic connection between the artworks displayed in the these two rooms.
Inspired by the events of the Arab Spring, the artist extracted single Arabic words like freedom, blood, fight, unite and connect from the political posters used by the protestors and spread them across the workʼs surface. The ramification of these elements communicates the worldwide expansion of a positive message of change through a fundamental mass media tool: the Internet.
The repeating geometrical pattern, deriving from the Islamic tiles in the Alhambra (Granada), is an element of positivity in support of the Arabic culture.
The artist is once again reflecting on the idea of freedom. He does not see it as a universal value but as a fragmented concept that is shaped by the aspiration of each population, ethnic or political group.
Ruffo says that just like in an unconventional supermarket ʻeveryone uses different ingredients in order to create his own freedom modelʼ, from this came the title Freedom Supermarket.

Gli spunti di riflessione provengono dagli avvenimenti della Primavera araba. Dai manifesti di propaganda politica, Ruffo estrapola parole in arabo come libertà, sangue, lotta, despota, unirsi, connettersi, che nellʼopera si espandono su tutta la superficie. Il diramarsi di questi elementi esprime simbolicamente il diffondersi in tutto il mondo dei messaggi positivi di cambiamento ramite Internet, strumento fondamentale di comunicazione di massa. Il motivo geometrico ripetuto che crea la trama, ripreso da un pavimento dellʼAlhambra di Granada, è anchʼesso elemento positivo a sostegno della cultura araba. Lʼartista indaga ancora sul concetto di libertà, inteso non come valore universale, ma parcellizzato nelle aspirazioni particolari di ciascun popolo o gruppo etnico o politico. Ruffo afferma che come in una sorta di supermercato “con vari ingredienti ognuno si crea il proprio modello di libertà”, da qui il titolo di unʼopera
della serie Freedom Supermarket.
