Itʼs a series that began in 2004 and depicts the flags of Middle Eastern countries who are still directly involved in political and religious conflicts. The flag of Hamas symbolises Palestine in this case. The Arabic inscription on the flag states: There is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is the messenger of God. This inscription, usually white on green background, appears here on gold leaf.
In the whole series the colours, black and white only, are replaced by graphite drawings of animal skulls that have a double symbolic value. On one side the wide-open jaws symbolize the violence and voracity of the war predators, on the other side the stratification of these objects on the ground like fossils is a reference to the strong connection between the populations and their territories as well as their daily feeling of self defence.
