The Dior haute couture autumn-winter 2017-2018 show took place in the shadow of the ornately gilded soaring dome of the Hôtel National des Invalides in Paris. The outfits designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri were presented in a star-shaped amphitheater, specially conceived by the artist Pietro Ruffo. Inspired by the celestial globe produced for the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, Ruffo created a fresco in the form of a star representing the heavens, giving a nod to the lucky charm that proved a constant inspiration for Christian Dior himself. On the runway, itself also star-shaped, each of the five branches corresponds to a continent containing wooden sculptures of animals. A giraffe, a rhinoceros and a lion in the African savanna, a bear and an eagle in the North American redwood forest, a tiger and a monkey in the depths of the Asian jungle, a turtle and a crocodile in an Oceanic mangrove swamp, and, lastly, a horse and a deer among the olive tress and bougainvillea of Europe.
In conjunction with the opening of the Biennale Arte 2019, Dior wanted to celebrate the city of Venice, with the “Tiepolo Ball”, a charity initiative whose proceeds are destined for the restoration and promotion of the cultural heritage of Venice. It is a re-enactment of the iconic masked ball “Le Bal Oriental” held by Carlos de Beistegui at Palazzo Labia in 1951, in which Christian Dior and Salvador Dalí had created costumes together for the giant figures that opened the evening. Recreating the magic of that event, Pietro Ruffo in collaboration with Maria Grazia Chiuri designed sculptural clothes in which the starry night sky and the 12 signs of the zodiac are represented. The clothes were worn by dancers and stilt walkers who performed a spectacular performance by Parolabianca.
La sfilata Dior haute couture autunno-inverno 2017-2018 si è svolta all'ombra dell'elegante cupola dorata dell'Hôtel National des Invalides di Parigi. Gli abiti disegnati da Maria Grazia Chiuri sono stati presentati in un anfiteatro a forma di stella, appositamente ideato dall'artista Pietro Ruffo. Ispirandosi al globo celeste prodotto per l'Exposition Universelle di Parigi nel 1900, Ruffo ha creato un affresco a forma di stella che rappresenta la volta celeste, dando un cenno al portafortuna dello stesso Christian Dior. Sulla passerella, anch'essa a forma di stella, ciascuno dei cinque rami corrisponde a un continente con sculture di animali in legno. Una giraffa, un rinoceronte e un leone nella savana africana, un orso e un'aquila nella foresta di sequoie nordamericane, una tigre e una scimmia nelle profondità della giungla asiatica, una tartaruga e un coccodrillo in una palude oceanica di mangrovie e , infine, un cavallo e un cervo tra gli ulivi e la buganvillea d'Europa.
In concomitanza con l'apertura della Biennale Arte 2019, Dior ha voluto celebrare la città di Venezia, con il "Tiepolo Ball", un'iniziativa charity il cui ricavato è destinato al restauro e alla promozione del patrimonio culturale di Venezia. Si tratta di una rievocazione dell'iconico ballo in maschera "Le Bal Oriental" tenuto da Carlos de Beistegui a Palazzo Labia nel 1951, in cui Christian Dior e Salvador Dalí avevano creato insieme i costumi per le figure giganti che dovevano aprire la serata. Ricreando la magia di quell'evento, Pietro Ruffo in collaborazione con Maria Grazia Chiuri ha progettato abiti scultorei in cui sono rappresentati il cielo notturno stellato e i 12 segni dello zodiaco. Gli abiti sono stati indossati da ballerini e trampolieri che si sono esibiti in una performance spettacolare a cura di Parolabianca.
